In the UK, the standard storage limit is 10 years for social egg freezing, extendable to 55 years if you meet certain medical criteria — but if you freeze abroad, those rules don't apply. In Spain, there is no fixed legal maximum for storing your own eggs. In some countries, your eggs cannot legally be used for IVF with a donor sperm if you're single. If you don't use your eggs, you'll be asked periodically whether to continue storing, donate them to research, donate them to another woman, or let them perish. These are not small decisions. I walk you through exactly what the law says in the country where you're freezing, what your options are if you later want to use them for IVF — with a partner, with donor sperm, or alone — and what happens if you decide not to use them at all.
